Writing Group

Postby wordsmithery » Mon Jul 12, 2010 9:26 pm

Hello all,

I've recently moved back to Ampthill after studying for an MA in Screenwriting, and it's dawned on me that there really is nothing going on in Ampthill in terms of writing (not that I know of anyway)... so I thought I'd put the word out there and see if there are any other writery types here who might be interested in getting together to form a writing group.

It wouldn't have to just be about screenwriting - playwriting, novels, and poetry could be included (although I have little experience of the latter). Articles and copywriting, too, wouldn't be a problem as I'm a trained journo...

But back to the suggestion - basically, having spent time workshopping previous written work I know how helpful having regular deadlines and getting regular feedback can be... perhaps you feel you could benefit from a regular meet with people who are working towards similar goals.

Anyway, so there we have it. Let me know if you might be interested or if you know of a better way I could go about spreading the word and seeing if Ampthill has some writers lurking in its midst...

It'd be great to get something up and running.
Get in touch if you're interested.

Thanks a lot.

It sounds like a fantastic idea, although I am one of those people that genuinely feels there is no book in me...I belong to a reading group and we could always get together and read the output :)

In fact Ampthill has loads of reading groups :)

Welcome to the forum - I hope you get your group off the ground.

Maybe you could also try an advert in 'Around the Pump' newsletter.

How about talking to the owner of Horatio's Bookshop and seeing if you could put some flyers in there.

If poetry was to be included I would be interested.

Horatio's - good idea. That could be a nice place to meet too if they were willing to open late for us or something - they've got a couple of comfy sofas in there so it could work...

And I don't see why poetry shouldn't be included.

I'm going to try and get a flyer sorted soon - but am currently up against my dissertation deadline so it might not happen immediately. It will be done though!

Cheers for your interest and advice...

Hello,

I have published a couple of books on Amazon and I am in the process of writing the third book in the series. I have been looking for a writing club in this area and stumbled across this thread. I realise that it does date back to 2010 so I was wondering if that club mentioned was ever brought to life.

Many thanks for the reply,

I just looked at the link. It's seems like it's just for children.
