Radio 2

Postby Paradise_Alley » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:29 am

Following our decampment to a different workplace, we were only able to be able to pick up Radio 2 with any CLARITY for some time.
Judicious REPOSITIONING of the radio seems to have cured this, but we are sticking with it for the TIME-BEING.
I have some observations:
1) They do seem to have a very wide playlist. This is a GOOD THING and has led to a reasonably happy atmosphere. Not such a good thing is that there is a fair number of songs that my colleague likes to sing-a-long with.
Indeed, a few days ago, I was treated to a, FRANKLY CHILLING, rendition of "Hey, big spender", by Shirley Bassey along with faux-seductive parading. This led to me having to tell her to "Stop that NOW!" and ABANDONING the building for a reassuring smoke.
2) Also, they seem to have extremely morose days, one of which depressed us immensely. A bit of balance would have been in order that day.
3) Sarah Kennedy IRRITATES me.
That is all.
For now.

I'm thinking about going back to Radio 1 - I'm all Radio 2'd out. I want to listen to loud shouty music made by men from the north of England at the moment and there's a shortage of it on Radio 2.

However I do think Sarah Kennedy is amusing. :D

That as maybe but he has laughed for his whole career and made me laugh.

Who can fail to laugh at some of the antics he gets up to. I had to stop the car because I was crying when Ask Elvis was explaining the answer to a question in his own style

Love radio 2 to bits but have to agree with fortytwa and Paradise_Alley get rid of Sarah Kennedy - no idea about timing, talks over all the records or only plays 3.4 seconds of the intro and talks drivel inbetween the records that do get played.
Never thought i'd hear myself say this but bring on Aled Jones.

I was always a Capital girl - yes I hate the adverts but Johnny Vaughn cracked me up.

Now I'm a Five Live girl - used to hate Richard Bacon but he's growing on me - the range of topics they discuss late at night are compelling listening - often ending in at least one person getting very very irate!

There have been further incidents of workplace singing.
I have been treated recently to renditions of "Hi-ho silver lining" and "walking on sunshine" by Jeff Beck and Katrina and the Waves, respectively.
A threatened version of "I feel love", by Donna Summer, was THWARTED by the threat of hurling a hole punch at the PERPETRATOR.
Sarah Kennedy is still irritating me.

I have now bowed to the INEVITABLE and replaced Radio 1 with Radio 2 as a preset on my car radio.
This is a sure sign of AGING.

Next, you will begin to think that cardigans, slippers and beige trousers are a good idea.

Apparently, cardigans are quite in vogue at the moment, though I don't happen to possess one, but I have CONSIDERED it.
Slippers and beige trousers are NO-NOs.

Yet another memo to Sarah Kennedy.
Rather than play a record you don't approve of necessarily and punctuate it with whistles/bells/cat sounds/horns/silences.
Just don't play it, OK.
