Cardington Sheds - Airlander

Postby CraftsbyCarolyn » Sat Aug 06, 2016 8:54 pm

I see the new airship has made an appearance outside of the shed. Not sure I fully understand what it is all about, seems a tad slow for this world.

The uses it would have would be more about endurance, rather than speed.

Reconaissance for example.

Thought drones etc could do that now. Certainly be obvious that they were doing it :)

Other uses will be for carrying supplies to remote places -- such as Canadian arctic etc also plans for safari trips -- it can stay aloft for a long time...

I wonder if they will fly over Ampthill?
I remember the "Bond" Airship (as in Alan Bond not 007) used to come over on trial flights and also when things got really going,
trips for people. Then of course, there came financial problems and someone bought it out and it disappeared, although I think
it still flies at big events on the other side of the "pond".

I went over to Cardington to see it lift off.

It is quite likely it will be seen flying over Bedfordshire in the coming weeks and quite likely it will be visible from the Park at least -- when the weather is good for test flying!
