Delicate but tough

Postby Sagitar » Sat Dec 15, 2012 2:42 pm

During the autumn I planted a couple of rows of Violas down the sides of the front path to create a bit of colour as winter came on.

In the past week or so, they have been buried under several inches of snow, battered by hours of driving rain and frozen solid and coated in heavy frost for a couple of days. I felt sure they must be goners.

And yet this morning, out came the sun and immediately these tiny plants lifted their heads and stood up for themselves. What tough little blighters they are . . :)

I have always planted Pansies in two pots by my front door to see me through the Winter. They never fail, and the bonus is, that in the warmer weather - late Feb, March - they bloom their hearts out and last until I can change them for Summer flowers. For the last three years I have bought my Pansies from Tesco's at £3 a box.
They have been absolutely excellent. As good as any that I have paid twice the price for in the past. :AA

And more of nature's toughies were seen today when the frost revealed hundreds of spider webs all over the garden.

Not very many "rectangular" ones though, like this one on the bird table.
