Two finches and others in the rain.

A Chaffinch and a Greenfinch were sharing the feeder amicably yesterday.

It used not to be common to see chaffinches on feeders, but they seem to have developed the appropriate perching skills in recent times and now sit there very comfortably. The green colouration below the chaffinch is just the light reflected from the surface of the grass below.

Today, we had a pair of collared doves perching on the bird table, billing and cooing and quite unbothered by the rain.

At the same time we had a fledgling blackbird taking advantage of the wet ground to hone up his digging skills.

You can still see the remains of his "gape" so he's not long off the nest and he looks a bit odd with the mixture of fledgling and adult plumage that he's carrying. Watching the young birds develop really adds to the interest at this time of the year.

My goodness me, what amazing images! The close up is so clear that one is hardly aware of the rain! Lovely.!

In our little corner of North Norfolk, we have been blessed with a pair of Turtle Doves, and I so wish I had your photographic skills, all I have been able to do is video to capture their purring! However the gentleman across the road is a very keen Birder ( hate the word twitcher) and he has been patiently waiting with his tripod to get a photograph. I think he may have succeeded this evening!

Thank you for sharing !
Best Wishes--

Great photos, I notice that the blackbird has adapted and can now land on the fat ball thing I have in the garden.
